What is the cost for this course?

The cost for each course can be found on the website, by going to the tab "Our Courses".

What type of courses do we offer?

We offer First Aid and CPR/AED courses from the American Heart Association. We have 2 different levels of AHA courses; Heart Saver (for the lay rescuer) and BLS (for Health Care Providers) We also offer Emergency Medical Responder, and Emergency Medical Technician courses (EMR and EMT).

Where are the classes held?

Our classes are held at the Dutch Quarter Community Center.

Do you provide snacks /coffee?

We offer coffee and water. Please bring a snack/sandwich or preferred beverage.

Are the courses recognized outside of SXM?

We are an official Training Center of the American Heart Association. Our First Aid and CPR certifications are recognized world wide. Our EMR and EMT courses are recognized locally. Every country/area has different protocols for reciprocity.

Can we get a job with the Ambulance Department with EMT certification?

We are an organization that provides the training. We are not in a position to offer employment.

Are the classes held in the evenings?

First Aid and CPR/AED classes are usually held during daytime hours. Weekends are possible. Schedules can be set upon request. EMR classes are twice weekly from 7.00 pm till 9.00 pm (September through mid-December) EMR re-certification can take place during EMR classes (shortened schedule) EMT-prep classes for new EMTs are twice weekly from 7.00 pm till 9.00 pm (January through mid-May) After the preparatory classes there is a period of 2 weeks certification, full time 9 am till 5 pm. EMT re-certification is a period of 2 weeks; 9 am till 5 pm (end of May, beginning of June)

How long is the course?

First Aid is 6 hours, CPR/AED is 6 hours, a combination of both is 12 hours. EMR is 3 and a half months (September through mid-December) EMT certification for new EMTs is 6 months (January through mid-June) EMT re-certification is 2 weeks full time, from 9 am till 5 pm (during May-June)

How long does it take before I receive my certification?

The AHA certification takes approximately 2 weeks. AHA certifications are fully digital, it is important to provide a correct e-mail address!

What are the requirements for entering a course?

First Aid and CPR courses have no entry requirements. Our courses are taught in English. Children, from the age of 10, can enter the Family and Friends CPR course. For the EMR course you need to be a minimum 16 years of age, and be proficient in English (reading and writing). For the EMT course you have to be minimum 18 years of age, have an EMR certification (or equivalent). You also need be proficient in English, and have a high school diploma (GED or equivalent).
